Learn the key
The key of this song is its main chord, which is A major. This chord was used as a root in the songs melody, and it gave the music a nice steady feel.
The next most important part of the song is the bass line. In the first half of the song, there are three notes that repeat with no break. These notes are an octave lower than the guitar string one down (string number 4).
These strings make up the buss track for the rhythm section — the bass drum, kick drum, and floor tom.
Learn the chord progressions
The next step in learning how to play get rhythm is by learning the chords!
Getting into get rhythm will definitely not be boring if you are already familiar with playing some sort of music on the guitar. If you can sing along to songs that have rhythm, then it is easy to pick up get rhythm!
The first thing musicians learn when they start playing the guitar is their top note or tone. They use this tone to create an effect such as adding reverb, lowering the pitch, or both.
Practice singing along
A lot of people start playing guitar by simply strumming the strings and picking out notes, but this is not how most musicians learn how to play. The easiest way to learn how to play music is by learning how to sing!
Singing is a very powerful technique that anyone can pick up quickly. By singing what you want to play, you are already starting off on the right foot!
Practice singing every song you desire to know how to play – this will also help you recognize chords and licks faster as you will be familiar with them.
You do not need to have perfect pitch to begin singing, but it does make things easier! Many people who cannot easily identify or name tones and pitches use headphones and earbuds and listen to songs to improve their hearing.
Learn the lyrics
Even if you can’t play any chords, it is still possible to get some rhythm going by learning the song’s lyrics. You don’t need to know how to read music or anything of the like, but knowing the lyrics will help you learn the basics of playing guitar in time!
Most people when they start playing an instrument choose to learn the violin, the piano, or the guitar. The guitarist probably gets the most attention because there are so many styles that have become popular with guitarists such as blues, rock, country, and jazz.
But what most people forget about the guitar is getting into good timing. If you want to play really fast songs, then the guitar won’t do you much good unless you are able to master timing.
Timing is the part where you coordinate your breathing, feet, and hands to achieve the desired result.
Learn the beat
The first thing you will need to do is learn how to recognize the rhythm of a song! This is called learning the beat or understanding what part of the music has a steady pulse.
The rhythm in most songs is either an even-numbered step (like one, three, five, etc.), an odd number (like half a note, two notes, etc.) or a combination of both (like one and one and a half steps).
There are many ways to identify a rhythmic pattern. You can use any instrument, anything that bears some sort of marker for time like a drum set, guitar, piano, or violin. It does not matter which tool you choose, just make sure it is something you are comfortable with and can use effectively to test out the rhythm.
Practice being aware of the rhythm of a piece of music you already know so that you can apply this knowledge to new pieces.
Learn the guitar parts
The second part of how to play get rhythm is learning your guitar chords, or as most people know them, songs!
Getting into getting rhythmic with music comes down knowing what notes are used for each chord. This way you can create your own songs! There are many ways to learn this information, so whichever style you prefer, go ahead and explore.
You do not have to use all twelve strings in a major scale for every song, but it will help solidify your understanding of music theory. When playing along with some songs, try using the same set of notes to see what effects they have on the song.
Music theory helps us understand the language of music, from scales to modes to arpeggios. Once again, there are many different routes to take when studying these concepts.
Practice playing along with the recording
Chose a song that you can easily play at a moderate speed, or even slightly faster than the recorded version!
Practice by going slow first and then speeding up as you get closer to your goal of being able to play it quickly. Start by practicing only short sections of the song, like a verse or a chorus, before moving onto another part of the song.
You want to make sure you are still keeping time correctly before working on the rest of the song. Once you feel comfortable with this, move onto the next section of the song.
Create a playing plan
A lot of people start learning how to play guitar by picking random strings randomly up and down the neck! This is definitely not the best way to learn how to get rhythm on your guitar.
When you are trying to pick up music theory or get rhythm, it can be tricky to know where to begin. There are many ways to approach this, but most good beginner teachers will tell you to focus more on creating a playing plan before starting to study music theory.
A “playing plan” is like an outline for what songs you want to learn. It usually starts with the chord structure of the song, then moves onto the bass line, followed by the main part (the melody) and finally the chords that go along with the melody.
This process can sometimes seem very complicated at first, but once you have one, everything else falls into place easily.
