How To Play Rock Music
Posted by Mike Schumacher
What is music? That’s a good question! Technically, music is just a series of tones that come together in time. A tone can be a sound such as a bass note, treble clef or middle C, but it really doesn’t matter what kind you use — the important thing is how well you manipulate them.
That’s why musicians are so talented! They learn how to combine different notes into stories and songs. It’s also the reason many people can sing very well – they have learned the basics of music theory (the science of writing musical scores).
But beyond those fundamentals, there are several other things you can do to improve your understanding of music and your ability to play an instrument. These include learning about rhythm, pitch, timing and more. And while some of these concepts apply directly to playing instruments, others don’t. For example, knowing about rhythm will help you read a poem or song, but thinking about pitch won’t necessarily teach you to play a violin!
This article will go into detail about each one of these concepts and how to master them. But first, let us talk about something much simpler…
What is rhythm?

Rhythm is the pattern made up of pulses (or beats) and spaces in between.
Make a good playlist
Now that you have your music listening platform set up, it’s time to make some songs play! The first step in doing this is making a good playlist.
A good playlist doesn’t just include a bunch of different artists or genres; it has to be well curated. You want to pick only songs that sound great together, and none that clash with each other.
This could mean choosing one song from each artist, one genre per album, or even one theme per album. It all depends on what sounds best for your personal taste.
After all, being able to listen to your favorite songs without interference is a key part of how well you can learn about music.
Learn to sing
One of the most fundamental things that anyone needs to know how to do is to be able as read music. Not only can you learn how to play songs by ear, but you can also learn how to sing them!
Many people think that being able to play an instrument means being able to make some noises with it. But actually playing an instrument isn’t just about making noise — it takes lots of skills that include tone, rhythm, tempo, and expression.
Playing an instrument also requires coordination and strength in your hands and fingers. It takes practice to become proficient, which is why beginners start off practicing on the violin or the guitar.
Once you have learned how to play a few notes, you can move onto another level where you must be able to read music. Reading music gives you the tools to compose and interpret music yourself.
There are many ways to learn how to read music. Some of the best resources include taking lessons from a teacher, listening to recordings of musicians, and studying music theory.
Learn to dance
Let’s talk about how to play music for a minute. Beyond just using your hands, you will want to learn how to dance! Dancing is one of the most fundamental forms of music expression. There are many ways to learn how to do this. You can start by trying simple things like moving your feet or shaking your arms.
Then, once you feel comfortable with that, try doing something more elaborate. Pick an area of the room- any space big enough for you to move in comfortably- and spend some time exploring different moves and steps.
There are so many types of dancing. Disco, hip hop, techno, rhythm, ballroom, florida beach, even acrobatics! All have their own special moves that take practice to get right.
Learn to play an instrument
Choosing what music you want to listen to is influenced by your personal preferences, but also by how well you can perform it. If you’re passionate about music, then pick up the instruments that inspire you so that you can truly express yourself through song.
For example, people who play guitar are usually considered part of the rock genre. You can learn to play the guitar quickly by picking up songs or beginner lessons online or from friends.
People who drum often contribute rhythm and timing to a group or band. Technically, anyone can learn to be a drummer! All you need is a set of drums and some basic skills like keeping time.
Get a good microphone
A quality microphone is one of the most important pieces of music equipment you can invest in. You will probably spend more money on this piece of gear than anything else!
The first thing people usually complain about when buying a new microphone is that it isn’t as loud or doesn’t sound “loud enough.” These are very subjective things, however, so you will have to do your research and try out different mics before deciding which one is best for you!
Music production professionals use several types of microphones throughout the recording process, so there are many great choices available. Technically, a smartphone has its own built-in mic already, but it won’t do much beyond make short voice calls, so most people don’t use this.
A better choice would be an external USB microphone like The Mojo Plus – who knows, maybe even something more advanced later! The main difference between internal and external mics is how they connect to your device. An internal mic just adds another layer of noise to whatever you are listening to, while an external one connects directly to your phone or computer. This makes your recordings clearer and less noisy.
There are also some variety of overpriced super duper expensive pro studio level microphones that cost way too much cash! Most people never need those so they are a waste of money.
Practice often
Having a passion for music is one of the greatest things you can have in your life, but how will people know that you love it if you don’t show it? Luckily, there are lots of ways to get into the habit of practicing music on a regular basis.
You can choose to be beginner level by taking lessons from an instructor or teacher of the instrument you want to learn. Or, if you already know some chords, you can start playing them more thoroughly using notes and modes!
Practicing music every day doesn’t mean only doing it for set amounts of time each week, however. You can use your phone as practice help sometimes! There are apps and programs that can keep track of what piece of music you need to work on next, and then give you tips and tricks about it until you’re able to play it well.
Create a good atmosphere
If you want people to enjoy listening to music, create a good environment for them to do so. This includes putting up appropriate decorations, keeping the space clean, and having enough snacks and drinks for them to consume.
People will feel comfortable in your space if there are no distractions like cars outside or other things happening around them. Let them know that they can come here and focus solely on their favorite songs!
Music is a powerful tool. It can motivate someone else when they listen to it, but you have to use it properly. Make sure to teach others how to use this tool wisely.
Develop your voice
As mentioned earlier, developing your music voice is an ever-evolving process that always start with learning how to listen to music! There are many ways to learn about musical instruments, what styles of music use which notes, and how to analyze songs to determine what parts sound good and why.
Once you have learned some basics, it’s time to begin practicing! Practice makes perfect, so keep going until you get somewhere – even if it’s not very well yet. When starting out, try experimenting with using one instrument for example, before moving onto another. This will help you develop muscle memory, or knowledge of how to play a particular instrument.
Next up, choose a genre or field of music to focus on. A beginner can pick anything from classical to hip hop, but as you advance, specialize in one area. This way, you will hone your skills more quickly since you will be more familiar with the internal rules and patterns.
